Items Needed:
Doll head
Scissors
Small crochet needle
Tweezers
Liquitex Modeling Paste (Golden brand can also be used)
Liquitex Acrylic Gloss Varnish (Golden brand can also be used)
Paint Brush
Paint for hair color
Optional: plastic straws

1)Remove all hair from the doll’s head. I begin by cutting the hair on the doll very short to the scalp. I use a small croquet needle inside the head to help loosen the hair. I then use tweezers to pull all of the hair out of the head. Make sure there is no hair remaining inside the head.

2)Mix modeling paste and varnish half and half until the consistency is very smooth.

3)Paint a thin layer of the mixture on the head. Make sure to cover all of the rooting holes. Then let dry.

4)Paint another thin layer of the mixture on the head. Begin to work on the hairstyle you would like the doll to have. Add bangs, hair around the ears, and hair on the neck.If you would like the hairstyle to have curls, use plastic straws and attach them with the modeling mixture and paint a thin layer of the mixture over them. Let dry.

5)Repeat Step 4 using a mixture that is a little thicker.

***note — if you make more mixture than you need, you will have enough to do this layer and it will have dryed out some making it a little thicker. Let dry.

6)Mix modeling paste, varnish and paint color about 1/3 each. Paint the head with a little bit thicker layer making sure to go over the "newly added hair" you created. Let dry.

7)Repeat Step 5 until you get the texture and style you like. As the mixture drys, you can begin to add spikes that will stay. Let dry.

8)Once the hairstyle you want is achieved, paint several coats of glaze over the molded hair. This will add depth to the hair color. Here are the finished dolls.

(Glaze-varnish and paint mixture. The mixture should look transparent to the eye.)
